2010 — Message from Jean-Louis Chaussade
A QUALITY LOCAL PRESENCE
SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT’s business lines are, by definition, local. Water and waste are local services that are based on a quality relationship between our employees and our clients. To address this need, we are growing in France, Europe and internationally within a context of developing local roots to promote listening, dialogue so we can adapt our approach and services to regional contexts.
With over 63% of our activity currently performed outside of France, our Group consists of 79,554 women and men of over 70 nationalities. To benefit from and promote this diversity, in 2010 we launched our “Equal opportunities, social progress, and commitment” programme. We are convinced that the goals of social responsibility and economic performance are complementary. By committing to diversity, we take each person into account and we also enhance our ability to understand our clients and serve them better, simply by resembling them more closely. Serving our clients better also depends upon our ability to offer a more global approach to the water and waste cycles.
Over the past decade, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT has changed and established itself internationally as an undisputed leader in environmental performance. These positive results were due to the Group’s innovative responses to the new challenges of the water and waste business lines. The operational entities have considerably strengthened their expertise and developed their commercial model. With its volume-based strategy, the water business lines place increasing emphasis on services. Meanwhile, its waste business lines are transitioning from a disposal strategy to a recovery strategy. This ability to change is directly supported by an ambitious and long-term research and development policy. In 2010, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT achieved all its financial goals, which were revised upward during the year despite the continuing lack of recovery in Europe’s economies. We succeeded in combining sales momentum and improved productivity to increase our revenue by 12.8% in 2010.
